R.E.E.S. (Rockland Environmental Education Symposium)
This annual event, initiated in 2009, is a unique opportunity for educators, administrators and parents from schools across the county to share best practices in environmental education. It also provides a forum for brainstorming strategies for meeting common goals and challenges and learn more about available resources and models of collaboration and partnership.
The 2011 Symposium was held on March 2 at Fieldstone Secondary School and featured keynote speaker Bronwyn Mitchell, Director of the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education. Two roundtable discussion sessions facilitated by professionals and experienced educators offered ten different discussion topics from which to choose – from Exploring Schoolyard Habitats to Effective Green Team Building. A mid-morning Sustainability Fair, coupled with a hearty morning meal, provided time to meet peers and visit exhibitors. In the afternoon Wrap Up Session, some of the exciting environmental initiatives in Rockland schools were highlighted.
